However, much of the delay comes from how operating systems verify the availability and integrity of each new version before allowing users to proceed. This system check occurs prior to installation and is outside our immediate control.

An alternative is to download the latest version manually from the website, then remove the old version from Applications, then install the new version. Your data would stay intact. That remains true as of the latest version of macOS at the time of writing this document (May 2026).
