Step 2: Choose Your Voice

  1. Select which voice you want to use for the entire audiobook
  2. Use the Preview button to listen to voice samples
  3. This helps ensure you’re happy with the voice before starting the lengthy export process

Step 3: Select Output Format

Choose between two professional formats based on your needs:

  • Higher quality audio with superior compression
  • Chapter navigation - listeners can jump between chapters easily
  • Metadata support - includes book title, author, and chapter information
  • Perfect for audiobook apps like Book Player, Audible, or Apple Books
  • Ideal for longer documents and complete books

MP3 Format (Universal Compatibility)

  • Smaller file sizes - takes up less storage space
  • Universal compatibility - plays on virtually any device
  • Web-friendly - suitable for sharing or embedding
  • Faster processing compared to M4A
  • Best for shorter documents, articles, or web content

Step 4: Configure Export Settings

  1. Save Location: Specify where the final audiobook will be saved
  2. Chapter Selection:
    • By default, all chapters are included
    • Deselect chapters you don’t need to accelerate processing
    • Create streamlined, compact outputs for specific content

Step 5: Start the Export Process

Click “Create Export” to begin generating your audiobook.

Export Time Estimates

The system provides estimated completion times based on:

  • Document length
  • Selected voice complexity
  • Output format choice
  • System performance

You can have multiple exports at each time, we process them one by one. Once one is done, we start processing the next one.

If you start listening to something in WithAudio in the Reader mode, for example if you import a link and play a paragraph of that link, that would get a higher priority in audio generation compared to your exports.

After exporting audio from a document using a specific voice, any subsequent exports using the same voice will be significantly faster. This is because the voice synthesis is cached locally. For instance, if you initially export a document using Adam’s voice in MP3 format, converting it later to M4A format with the same voice will be much quicker since the voice synthesis step can be skipped.

Important Processing Information

Why Exports Take Time

Audio generation is a compute-intensive process that requires significant processing power:

  • Voice synthesis processes each word individually
  • Audio rendering creates high-quality output
  • Format conversion optimizes for your chosen format
  • Chapter assembly combines all parts seamlessly

Best Practices for Long Exports

For sizable projects that may require several hours:

  1. Run overnight - Start exports before bedtime
  2. Keep the app open - Don’t close WithAudio during processing
  3. Ensure stable power - Connect to power if using a laptop
  4. Plan ahead - Start exports when you won’t need immediate access
